The Iranian Sleep Medicine Society (ISMS) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2006. This organization has a multidisciplinary approach. The establishing team included different disciplines of Otolaryngology, Occupational
Medicine, Pediatrics, Pulmonary, and Psychiatry. Later, the ISMS team, extended its board members to anesthesiology and also internal medicine.
This scientific and nonprofit organization has various educational and research activities in the field of sleep medicine.
In 2011, 5 years later after ISMS establishment, the first adult standard academic sleep center (Tehran University of Medical Sciences) started training adult sleep medicine fellows in Iran. Also in 2013, the first pediatric sleep medicine fellowship program started in Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in the city of Qazvin.
The main mission of Iranian Sleep Medicine Society is to promote optimal diagnosis and treatment
for patients with sleep health disorders.
