The Bulgarian Society of Obstructive sleep apnea and Snoring (BSOSAS) was founded in 2012 in Varna, Bulgaria. The President of the society is Prof. Dr. Mario Milkov, MD, PhD. There are three vice-presidents and two secretaries. The members of the society are 120, specialists in ENT, cardiology, neurology, pulmonology , physicians in dental medicine, dental technicians, healthcare professionals, nurses, medical, dental, pharmacy, healthcare and medical college students.
BSOSAS has been a member of World Sleep Society since 2016. It has always been a pleasure to work and cooperate with our partners from World Sleep Society. BSOSAS has been readily participating in each year’s sleep events since 2016.
The aims of BSOSAS are as follows: prevention, diagnostics and therapy of the syndrome of OSA and snoring and associated comorbidity, organizing of meetings and courses in our country, participation of international OSA meetings.
In the period 2012 – 2024, BSOSAS organized more than 10 meetings in the field of sleep and dental sleep medicine, syndrome of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring and the associated comorbidity (including the newest for our country field – the implications on the audio-vestibular system).
A prophylactic programme for sleep apnea prevention among the professional drivers of the town public transport on the premises of Varna Municipality. Republic of Bulgaria has been organized.
In 2016, for the first time in Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov” – Varna, the World Sleep day festivities have been organized. Since the same year of 2016, Obstructive sleep apnea and snoring has been recognized as an elective discipline for students in dental medicine at Medical University – Varna.
In 2019, the Bulgarian Academy of Sleep medicine (BAMS) has been established, with its current President – Dr. Miroslav Stoykov, DMD, PhD.
BSOSAS has fruitful cooperation with European sleep societies and societies from all continents, including North and South America, Africa, Asia, Australia.
