News – Formation of the World Sleep Society

World Sleep Society – Press Release

October 20, 2015: The international associations of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM) and the World Sleep Federation (WSF) have merged to form the World Sleep Society (WSS). The World Sleep Society will continue the fundamental mission of both societies, raising the awareness of sleep issues around the globe. This will be accomplished through educational, awareness, and membership programs.

Dr. Clete Kushida, president of the WSF states, “We look forward to combining the expertise of both organizations to create an unparalleled congress that allows for international collaboration from the top experts in sleep medicine and research.”

Allan O’Bryan, Executive Director of WASM, noted, “We are excited about the opportunities of the combined organizations. The new organization will maintain programs of both organizations providing our members the best of sleep medicine and research worldwide.”

World Sleep 2017 will be the first joint congress of the World Sleep Federation and the World Association of Sleep Medicine. This international meeting will be held in Prague, Czech Republic from October 7-11th, 2017, and hosted by the Czech Society for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine. World Sleep 2017 will be the 7th congress for WASM and the 8th congress for WSF.
